ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES: HIERARCHY IN PROPERTY RIGHTS
ABOUT THE COURSE
This course explores three basic principles about:
-Property rights and access to the environment - Hunter-gatherers vs agriculturalists - Hierarchy of property rights - More people, less erosion
In the discussion we consider the importance of language. Worldwide there is a trend for a few languages to dominate national and international communication. However, if local languages are lost, then the subtlety of our relationship to the environment where we live is lost too.
This course explores the different ways that nature is perceived by different types of societies and the impact of property rights on natural resource management.
